In September 2025, the Government of Canada announced the launch of Build Canada Homes – a new federal agency that will build and finance affordable housing at scale, while catalyzing a more productive housing industry. To begin, Build Canada Homes will accelerate the construction and delivery of up to 4,000 new homes on land parcels across six Canada Lands properties:
Village at Griesbach – Edmonton, AB
Naawi-Oodena – Winnipeg, MB
Arbo Downsview –Toronto, ON
1495 Heron Road – Ottawa, ON
Pointe de Longueuil – Longueuil, QC
Shannon Park – Dartmouth, NS
The parcels chosen for Build Canada Homes were selected due to their readiness for construction and alignment with the vision and municipal approvals of each project.

On October 17, 2025, on behalf of Build Canada Homes, a Request for Qualifications was launched to engage potential builders for the development of 540 new housing units at Arbo Downsview.
